I have always been a big fan of radio. I remember sitting for hours as a child, captivated by radio’s greats; guys like Jack Holmes, Paul Todd, Chuck King, Harvey Johnson III, Soul Ranger, Chester B, King Hot Dog the Great, Calvin Shakespeare Bob Jackson, and Scotty Andrews and many others as they masterfully orchestrated theatre of the mind.  I saw my future, radio was in my blood.  By time I was 15, I built a radio station; broadcasting live from my bedroom. It was not long before I got my first shot at real radio gig in my hometown of Norfolk, Virginia.  I got the chance to hold down the overnight show while still in high school. My love and passion for radio consumed me; it was all I wanted to do.  I knew way back then that this was the business for me. Eight years had passed when I got a call to work on a major station; KATZ-AM in St. Louis Missouri as the afternoon drive jock. Within 6 months I was pulling top ratings. I was one of the most popular jocks in town. I could sell a record on the air like nobody’s business.
Three years later I moved on to Atlanta, Georgia, and on to the sister side of the radio business; the record business. I became a regional promotion manager for Mercury Records. My territory covered 6 states in the southeast, working with artists like the Ohio Players, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Styx and others. Although working in the record biz was a great experience, my heart never left radio. After working with the Ohio Players on the road for 3 weeks while they toured the southeast, I returned home and received a call from a program director offing me a job in the big apple. That station was 99X- WXLO-FM.  I leaped at the opportunity to return to my true love and passion.  I accepted that job faster that a fat baby can fill up a diaper. Once again, I had instant success. I had every teen in town tuned in within 3 months.  I was in high demand because I was absolutely red-hot with each new station.  I burned up the airwaves with success.  I was one of the hottest voices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Charlotte, and Washington DC. I also consulted 16 other stations in cities all over the United States.

I went on from there to become very successful in Chicago as a disc-jockey and program director of WBMX, now V103 and WGCI. I programmed both to number one in the nation among music stations during the 80’s. I had the same accomplishments in San Francisco with KMEL-FM. After leaving KMEL, I returned to Chicago to become radio’s first and only two million dollar man. I made history earning more money than any other program director in this nation, and that record still stands today.

While still in radio I developed the passion for computers and software. In 1981, I had the foresight to predict where personal computers were headed. I started a computer company that sold and repaired PC’s. By 1997 the company moved into the Internet offering website design and hosting. I still own this company to this day. It is one of the oldest minority-owned web hosting companies in America.

By 1994 I was working for Radio One, Inc. as vice president of programming. I was responsible for 5 radio stations in Washington DC and Baltimore, MD. I worked with various general managers, program directors and station owners, implementing concepts, structure, and direction for each of the stations.

In 2006 I went to work for Syndication One, as national program director. I helped launch this new talk network of syndicated shows which included Michael Eric Dyson, Rev. Al Sharpton, and the Two-Live Stews. I also programmed XM channel 169 the Power for Syndication One, whose programs included Joe Madison, Andre Michael Eggelletion, Wilmer Leon, Mario Armstrong, George Wilson, and others.

In June 2008 I launched US Talk Network, an internet based broadcast of talk shows including Coz Carson, Shelley Winter, and the Andre Michael Eggelletion Experience. The network quickly grew to more than 50,000 listeners per day. Of all the ventures I have made in radio, I’m the most excited about US Talk Network. Recently my partner, Andre Michael Eggelletion, and I, have cleared our first two terrestrial radio station affiliates, with many more to come. Because we own and operate our own state of the art broadcast facilities in South Florida, our business model affords us the opportunity to optimize profit through maintaining a very low overhead.

Over the years I’ve received many accolades and awards:
1) Program Director of the Year 1984
2) Young Black Programmers Coalition (YBPC)
3) Program Director of the Year 1986; Impact Magazine
4) BRE (Black Radio Exclusive) Program Director/Operations Manager of the Year 1986, 1988; The Gavin Report
5) While serving as Program Director at WGCI and KMEL, both stations were named station of the Year 1986, 1987; The Gavin Report
6) George Foster Peabody Broadcasting Award 1992/While Chief Operating Officer at KJLH-FM
7) Received over twenty-five (25) Gold/Platinum Records from the recording industry
8) Winner of the Top 10 Programmers of all Time (Radio Facts)
I won these awards and received this recognition because I’ve always been an innovator and trend setter in business. The secret to my success is that I simply understand what most people don’t; “the power of staying in the creative mode.”
